Jewelry-making Workshops
Through this series of workshops, you will learn how to transform your stones and crystals into wearable sterling silver jewelry.
Materials are provided for all classes. Tools are also provided, but sharing may be necessary; please feel free to bring your own smooth-jawed pliers. You are invited to bring your own stones as well, but be advised that not all stones are well suited for all projects. All classes are $75 in the Greater Fort Lauderdale area and last 2 to 3 hours. Discounts are available for groups of three or more. Please contact me for group rates.
Skill level does not indicate prerequisites, simply the level of difficulty. If you are very comfortable using tools and doing detailed handi-work, you may have no trouble beginning with a moderate or difficult project.
Introduction to Wire Working (skill level: easy)
In this class students will learn the basics of wire jewelry making. We will discuss tool selection, wire options and stones. Each participant will create two pendants.
Materials: 6” 24ga round wire, 24” 24ga square wire, 12” 22ga ½rnd wire, one drilled stone, one spherical or egg shaped stone
Pendants (skill level: moderate)
Building on skills learned in the introductory class, this workshop will teach how to apply those techniques to irregularly shaped stones. Other wrapping techniques and a variety of bails will also be discussed. Participants will complete one pendant.
Materials: 32” 24ga square wire, 12” 22ga ½rnd wire, one Cabochon or semi-flat stone
Rings (skill level: moderate)
For jewelers, rings present the unique problem that one size does not fit all. In this workshop we will add new techniques to the processes we have already learned to fashion two different ring styles. Resizing and adjusting rings will also be discussed.
Materials: 12” 24ga round wire, 64” 24ga square wire, 12” 22ga ½rnd wire, one bead, one small cabochon or semi-flat stone
Earrings, Chain and Findings (skill level: moderate)
"Findings" is the jewelry term for all the little components which come together to create the finished piece. In this class participants will learn how to make a simple secure chain, two styles of clasps (toggle and hook), jump rings, split rings, and two types of ear wires (French and kidney).
Materials: 12” 26ga round wire, 24” 24ga round wire, beads optional
Bracelets and Stone Setting (skill level: difficult)
In this workshop we will be building on all the skills learned thus far to create a cuff bracelet. I will demonstrate several methods of stone setting (beaded clusters, prong setting, bracing), and participants will complete one bracelet with their choice of setting.
Materials: 60” 22ga square wire, 24” 22ga ½rnd wire, several beads or one stone
